Hey guys,
Here is some information upon the completion of DM-FutureTown. My final map for Red Faction.
Unfortunally, due to unfortunate events, the map is now 0% completed due to a computer problem that has caused me to re-install everything.
The problem that I have been experiancing is a New Graphics card problem.
I will like to fully annouce that the FutureTown map is still a go once I have re-installed everything and fixed the problem.
The map is going to be slightly different since I have lost everything to do with Red Faction. That includes my "Super Speed Underground High Way" .
I hope this problem does not disapoint anyone.
I shall start track of the map in about 2 weeks once I have gained all the Textures and utilities I need for this map.
Spikey. |

You had a graphics card issue and you lost everything on your computer? I find it hard to believe that any issue caused by a graphics card would make you need to format your hard drive. Care to explain the problem? Perhaps it can be avoided in the future. |

Yeah sure, where shall I begin...
Well i bought my self a new game for the PC not long ago called Tony Hawks Underground 2. I was having problems with it so I asked Activision for customer support. They recommended me that I remove my old ATI drivers from my computer and install the new Catalyst 5.9. After removing the drivers, I rebooted my computer. When my computer had booted up, All i got was a black screen with a mouse point on it... after 8 seconds, my monitor shuts off and doesnt do anything.
This problem had caused me to reformat and reinstall everything to scratch... and for the record, Ive done this 5 times now lol... .
Im glad ive got the patients to wait for it all to install.
My old graphics card was a ATI RADEON 9200SE 128MB.
My new graphics card is now a ATI RADEON 9600 Pro 128MB |

im willing to bet that if u had removed and reseeted the vid card, and then rebooted the problem woudnt have existed.
im also willing to bet that if u had an onbored card and used that till u got the new drivers installed then the problem would have nver occured.
did u even bother to call tech support when u rebooted and got a blank screen? |

Might I point out that the 9600 series has issues with VIA chipsets on mobos
Take my 9600XT for example, I put it on my gaming pc and it f'ed up, I had to install the same drivers 10 times in a row for them to work properly. And they still had issues! But, I place the card on my sister's pc I built for her with an ASUS mobo with a SiS chipset, it works like a dream! lol |

Yes I did, they had no explanation for it.
My Motherboard does not have an On Board Graphics card because some of us folks cant afford it . Plus my motherboard is an old one... KT400 V400DA with VIA Chipset.
And just like that guy says above this post, he had problems with it on a VIA chipset motherboard... So that is my problem. |

Have you crawled out from under a rock or something? I sure I mentioned ages ago on this forum somewere about this final map...
Here are some links if you cannot be bothered to locate them.
1st posthttp://redfaction.levels4you.com/forum.l4y?do=view&t=96904
2nd posthttp://redfaction.levels4you.com/forum.l4y?do=view&t=97695
Reason why it is my final map is because im starting to get a little sick of Red Faction sitting there doing nothing while im playing on other games like
Gunz Online (downloadable for free) http://www.gunzonline.com
Tony Hawks Underground 2
C & C Renegade
C & C Generals
Juiced
Basically ive got sick of all my old games and got new ones instead. |

The computer should have been able to boot windows in save mode at least.
Usually windows uses S-VGA or "Microsoft generated" Radeon drivers. Very strange
If I get in this trouble I try to copy the harddrive on another one or burn the files on a CD..it's good when you have 2 PCs
I remember using Windows98....formatting the harddrive was as usual as breathing, well almost
I hate to format WindowsXP, it always requests me for the registration code after a new installation. I have to call these idiots at microsoft because I have no interenet that'd do it automatically (I think). Everytime when my hardware changes just a little I have to get a new code. Very annoying
btw. Sipkey, these games will never hook you up as long as Red Faction did
PS: I hate juiced, that console game by THQ Get Nfsu 2 and feel the real sound, n the real graphics! (I still play it now and then..it kicks CENSORED and my 3old brother also likes it "Auto! " lolol ) |

lol I have NFSU2. ive completed it aswell and now im bored with that game too.
I found the main problem with my computer... Activison have just told me that my AGP Status: Not Available.
This is what they said.
Quoting Activision |
Hi,
Your AGP status is showing as the following in your dxdiag:
AGP Status: Not Available
There are a few causes for this status the most common ones are as follows:
-Video hardware acceleration not being turned up all the way
-Bad driver install
-Bad AGP driver install (this is part of the chipset driver install)
-Poor setup for the AGP card through the system BIOS
To check hardware acceleration:
Right-click on a blank portion of the desktop and select properties
Click on the "settings" tab
Click on the "advanced" button
Click on the "Troubleshoot" tab
The hardware acceleration slider is located here
The others may be harder for you to check.
You may want to try skipping the driver reinstall given the problems you've had.
You have a via chipset motherboard. These drivers are not easily removed, however, you can try reinstalling the latest version from here http://www.viaarena.com/Default.aspx?PageID=2.
Setting up your BIOS is going to be different based on motherboard manufacturer, model number, and revision. I would contact your motherboard or system manufacturer for information about this. |
Im not sure why my AGP status is shown as Not Available. I do currently have my AGP drivers installed for my motherboard though, so I cannot really see why this is a problem. |
