Quoting lance4 | this whole downloading thing sucks anyway, why did you guys actually do this? relink after relink and queu's...man the site only got worse since the refresh, i hate the Mp2 section, that pic is just awfull... the only thing im around here is because this is the only place where all the mods are hosted, but that is gonna change soon...
the forums are filled with dumb questions, man where is Mp2 going these days, no one respect this game anymore? what hurst me most is that everybody is begging for HoM and SF (let those people finsih their mod IN PEACE!), but they forget the real work, non media Censored , the work still in the hearths of fans, keeping things secret, developing because they love the game and wanna amuse people like YOU! accept this and look more then this small bulletin board, ''max payne'' fans these days dont look further then their nose is...jeez that pisses me off, HoM and SF get all the attention , and all those Censored ing nice mods out there dont, these people worked hard on their Censored ! Regou Ops, The Hell Unchained, Blood Will Tell, Blade Tc... You create a mod because you like to do it or not, trying to get famous wich is is really pathetic..
And dont get me wrong, those mods are cool, but its not fair against others. I know these guys who made these mods really well, and they are nice people, wanna help you with everything needed etc etc. Its more fair to judge people on how they are and not because their projetc is so damn good...
you people do not know what you are missing... |
I usually browse these forums through my regular routine of checking on MP2 sites. Ever since I used to work for Deep Six (planetmaxpayne) I've had the custom of checking almost every news site out there for mod news. I wouldn't say these forums are lacking, in fact, I think they've been showing more activity lately than some of the other sites I visit.
But the real reason behind this post is to clarify something:
Based on the tone and what you said on your post I can sense some hostility towards Aztec and us, the HoM team. First I'd like to mention a few facts -
1) We do not make ANY money out of the mods nor do we ever plan to
2) I don't know about everyone else but all the work I've put into HoM has been not because it would make me "popular" but because I enjoy it, and the game me and the team are building is something I personally wish someone had done before. It's the kind of game *I* would like to play. We're not in this for fame or money, in fact, we weren't really very popular when we started the mod and the only reason we're popular now is because of all the hard work we've put into it. I LEARNED how to animate just for HoM, I used to just be a coder. I put days and weeks and months into making the fighting system and balancing the gameplay, adding new features, putting it all together and even doing the PR work to get the mod to as many people out there as possible. None of this happened by accident, I had to go out there and GRAB it. If people don't know about your mod you can't have a fanbase, and if you really didn't care about publicity and all you cared about was just making a mod you love then you wouldn't have posted about how unfair you think it is that other mods are getting more attention. The truth is, everyone wants attention. My main motivation isn't "fame and fortune" but it certainly encourages me to work even harder on the mod when I know there are fans out there as passionate about my work as I am.
3) I for one know that Aaron (Aztec) has put quite a lot of work into SF. He has been a real top notch guy and he actually helped me a lot when I didn't know how to animate. I wasn't born with this knowledge, my work isn't automatically betetr than anybody's, its all up to how much time you choose to spend on it and how dedicated to your work you are. SF deserves it's popularity.
4) There are tons of "smaller" tweak mods out there that receive a lot of publicity. Cinema was a tweak mod, CtT is a tweak mod, kung fu is a tweak mod. Heck, I started modding with a tweak mod... it's even on this website on the "Most popular downloads" Ricomod 2.0, go look for it if you doubt it.
5) I'm not sure where your last comment really comes from. Why should people judge us based on anything else but the quality of our work and what they see of us as people? I may not be able to reply to every single email I get about the mod, every single pm or every single thread out there, but I try my damn best to do it. If anyone has a question I can answer I do so gladly, I have offered my help to a lot of my fellow modders and have written a few tutorials for the community to benefit from. Hell, I'm even encouraging people to use the work I'm doing for HoM and using it in their own mod if they want to, so long as they give appropriate credit for it.
6) As far as the "smaller" mods you speak of. How can you criticize HoM when I work on Rogue Ops as well? I'm part of three teams at the moment: HoM, Rogue Ops, Civil Unrest. Have you ever heard of Civil Unrest? No? That's because it's a project that's been kept under wraps because we felt we didn't want to release any media until we had something REALLY good and we were close to release. It's a horror mod with zombies and everything, a bunch of cool new features (dig around the videos section of the Max Payne 2 files here at L4Y and you can see the dismemberment video. You can shoot zombies's heads off and stuff like that). We're not out to get attention, we're out to pursue the things we love, and if people appreciate the work we do that's great, but if they don't, that's fine too.
HoM and SF aren't "smothering" the smaller mods, this is not a competition or some sort of race. If anything, I think having high profile mods is the only thing that can help the community still active. By dragging in a biggr fanbase, you have quite a bit more people trying the tweak mods and the "less famous stuff" while they wait, and even after release, I bet some of them will stick around to see if any more good mods can be found. |

This is exactly where i was afraid of. Like i said, It's nothing personal and i know you guys really well. And i like HoM and SF too and i will deffenitly download them but that's not the point.
Making money with a mod is illegal and nor i am planning to do that, i mentiond that in previous post that its wrong.
Sure i commit everybody would like to have attention, it gives you a good feeling. You didn't do you work only just because you enjoy it but that other people can enjoy it 2.
I never talked about smaller mods (if you mean Thu, Bwt and all those others i listed, then your're wrong because i know exactly how they are and those are deffenitly not ''small'' ), ''How can you criticize HoM when I work on Rogue Ops as well?'' Fair enough, because i dont look to you Rico, but to the project itself!
I agree with you that when you put a lot of work into a project, attention is like a reward. But that wasnt where i meant to go to. What i wanted to say with my previous post you quoted, is that HoM and SF are getting so much attention people forget about all those other mods in development (in my eyes).
Hey and im begging you to not understand me wrong, HoM and SF are cool, so is the crew working on it.
I also criticize l4y, I totally agree with you this is one of the most active forums out there. But in what way? "Can i unpack Max Payne 2?" "When is the release of SF and HoM?" "Max payne multiplayer", all of those topics we talked 100 times of before and if people look firs,t before they ask something....
And yes, I heared about Civil Unrest, that's at least the basic thing every Zombie modder has to know in the max payne community. And those things you listed are not origional anymore, because soon almost every project will have them. I hope with some varity. Actually thats what i like, do something origional with your available stuff and it doesnt matter if your mod has dismemberment and another 2. Anyway I even sended you a PM in 3drealms about the future of it, and i offered my help, and (same like you) that when i also have other project to think of.
and to close my post, I'm not a enemy of HoM or any other mod, i dont have any wrong intention about it at all. I'm willing to help everybody at every project, whether you are more or less experianced. You can't compare HoM, SF, BWT, THU, CU, RO, Blade, Cinema or any other mod with each other, they have different themes, styles etc. That's what make them different, that's what makes them unique. |

Two things...
1) Yeah, but none of them are truly unique after all.
I'm still waiting for a unique mod with a twisty storyline, brilliant levels and cinematics, and believeable characters. NewDawn was the first but basic things like blood particles and stuff let it down. Am I asking too much....?
2)I appericiate how much effort goes into modding, but you can't get angry at newbies just because they don't have as much experience (as Rico said, experience depends on how much time you spend with a game, so what if somebody had just bought the game?). Also if somebody has put so much effort into a mod, then they should be rewarded - perhaps with money. It's your choice if you want to make money out off your mod, and it probably isnt illeagal. |
I like you. I'll kill you last. |

Im not angry at newbies at all i even offer my help to all of them, but with some clear thinking you can reach alot even if you have no mind of modding at all. |

Ok.. let me just ask you all this..
What does it matter?
What does it matter that the community isn't as busy as it used to be?
What does it matter that the forums here are filled with "newbie" questions?
What does it matter that there arn't that many mods coming out?
Hmm?
I can answer those for you.
It doesn't matter that the community isn't as busy as it used to be because like Rico says popularity isn't everything.. you should be making mods because you enjoy doing so not because of the number of people downloading your mod.
It doesn't matter that the forums here are filled with "newbie" questions, because everyone should be helping out everyone and not worrying if the question has been answered before. If you feel that there isn't enough interesting topics then either start some up or go somewhere else.
It doesn't matter that there arn't that many mods coming out because if you have to worry that much then you really should put all the effort into making mods of your own. I know you are already doing that, so what's the problem?
If everyone stopped whining about the future of the MP2 community and used that effort to learn how to mod or make a mod of their own then all the community "would be ok" wouldn't it?
As for L4Y.. this site is fine.. I've tried some downloads then and they worked perfectly. Theres always other sites and if you want to start up your own download site for Max Payne 2 then get in contact with me and I'll pass you onto some guys from FileFront and you can start your own Files site exactly like http://halflife2.filefront.com/ |
