I use to be able to play RF just fine on my laptop. It may be because I recently formatted my harddrive. Any ideas of how to fix this? I have an itchy, irratable rash. RF is weird that way. Check to make sure you don't have too many files in your Multi folder and make sure you don't have any 0 byte files. Attempting to reinstall DirectX may take care of the problem, but if you've got WindowsXP, you've got DirectX 8 already. It comes with the OS. Try clicking Start -->Run -->Type dxdiag and hit Enter. It will give you all the info you ever needed to know about DirectX on your machine. See if there are any newer (or in some cases older) drivers for your Vid card. All else fails, just reinstall RF. Sometimes it doesn't install correctly. When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.     E_Darkness   Posted 15th Sep 2005 1:09am L4Y Member Post 82 / 338 Yeah ive had that problem when ive just done masive amounts of work and then proced to play rf. Ive found to fix it (with out a reboot) just turn up the direct 3d cach BUT I would recomend a reboot and that has always fixed the problem for me. I used to get this if I rigged my tower up to a poxy 15 inch TFT monitor. The resolution I run RF at was too high for it I think. Lower your resolution and try again. To do this, run Red Faction and click Setup.
